Music Saves the Day

Despite the large number of albums I have purchased, listened to and absorbed, it is still shocking to me how well the best musical artists can express so much in a three minute burst of sonic melody. It is a wonder sometimes that other artists don't give up in desperation in the face of such competition. Consider it, without even devoting your complete attention to it a song can impart a variety of feelings, thoughts and images to you. It is a wonderful thing indeed for the listener, whatever their mood they can find the appropriate musical therapy, press play and enter bliss for however long they want to forget (or revel in) their current frame of mind. The power of song to do so much in such a short amount of time is a gift that I will treasure for my entire life. In fact, I think I am going to listen to some music right now, U2 take me back.

Huzzah for Malcolm on creating a blog, FINALLY! Although I never did agree with you on the whole U2 bit...

Thank you for the words of encouragement manda. Just as songs are special for their unique emotional significance, it is important to note that each of us have different musical preferences. I still stand by U2 though, and while I appreciate your difference of opinion regarding their quality I hope that you can appreciate and enjoy their passion for what they do.

yeahs music does have power. I know we tune into what we think fits, maybe its a shared bond a feeling of someone else is/has experianced what we have and it makes us feel not alone. recently i have had new order on my mind "waiting for that final moment you'll say the words i can't say" hmm well that song has passed on to another that clicks with my life.

Music as a conduit for forging a community is an important observation. Since it is probable that this was one of the first uses of music its relevance can not be ignored. For most people, including myself, feelings of loneliness are to be avoided and again, as you pointed out mystery person, is a constant reason many of us turn to music for comfort. It sounds like, no pun intended, that you have had some very good news involving lyrical revelations of late and for that I congratulate you. Personally, I would say "The Old Apartment" by Barenaked Ladies and "I'm only happy when it rains" by Garbage are good reflections of my current mood.
